What is PRIME: Overview of Courses

PRIME is a professional development system for teachers and administrators, designed to increase teacher understanding of mathematics, through courses and accompanying resources.

PRIME is implemented through two types of strand-based courses; teacher courses, and facilitator courses.

Strand Courses for Teachers:
There are five strand courses for teachers of mathematics.
  • Number and Operations
  • Patterns and Algebra
  • Data Management and Probability
  • Geometry
  • Measurement

Strand Courses for Facilitators:
Districts can send people to be trained as PRIME course facilitators for the strand courses. These local facilitators can then conduct PRIME courses in the district.

In addition to courses and resources for the five strands of the mathematics curriculum, PRIME also features a School Mathematics Improvement Course for Leaders.

School Mathematics Improvement Course for Leaders:
This course is designed for principals and district administrators. It focuses on developing a School Math Improvement Plan and working with teachers as they are trained in the strand courses.
